Rowing – Where 2K Doesn't Go Very Far

Tucked away on the stroke side of Panama Road heading towards the Tamaki Estuary is the superb facility that is the home of the Auckland Rowing Club, now in its 149th year.  Pakuranga members and their spouses had the opportunity on Monday night of viewing the resources and learning of the Club’s history from Club Captain Michael Smyth and other officers.  The Club’s colours (and blazers) of red and black stripes were adopted from the colours of the Auckland Regiment (some members of which later settled in Canterbury and allowed the use their colours by assorted sports teams).

Rotary Emergency Response Kits (ERKs)

Dear Friends in Rotary,

You will be aware that Cyclone Gita is currently causing havoc in the Pacific and may indeed head down to New Zealand in the coming days.

We are in touch with Rotary in the Pacific:  at present in communication with Rotary Clubs in Samoa and Tonga.

Rotary’s Emergency Response Kits have been prepositioned in both  countries to enable immediate response.

We work with Disaster Management Coordinators in effected countries to ensure that the response is well manged and the kits are distributed in a timely manner.

We have direct contact with New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Disaster Relief Forum who provide at least twice daily situation reports.

As we prepare to replenish stock in 2018, we are most grateful for both club and members’ support for this vital Rotary Humanitarian Response spanning over four decades.

Details are in photo for making a contribution.

Thanks in advance for your support.

Best wishes
Stuart

Tip Top Schools Day

Peter Woodcock has taken on the responsibility of co-ordinating the organisation of the Tip Top Schools Day, set down for SUNDAY 25 March at Edgewater College.

Please contact him with offers of assistance (peterjwoo@xtra.co.nz) in doing the multitude of preliminary ‘jobs’ required to make this a successful day – especially if there was a task you helped with in past years. Key responsibilities will be in organising the man-power (we hope to get some support from neighbouring Rotary Clubs), the parking, and gear check. On the day itself we look forward to ‘all hands on deck’!
